A List Of Movies For Kids

a list of movies for kids
Best recent kid movies appropriate for an intelligent 8 year old?

I’m looking for some besides the ones we have seen which are;

Cars
Despicable Me
Megamind
Tangled
Up
(pretty much all pixar movies, including the toy story ones)
And most of the classic Disney Movies.

Is there any I might have missed that came out recently that isn’t on my list?
He’s not really entertained by anything focused towards younger kids, most likely movies a 8-10 year old boy would like. Thanks

How To Watch Movies With Kids

$9.95

“C’mon, Mom, everyone’s seeing it,” your child says to you. The latest movie is out in the theater, and though other parents are taking their kids, you’re not quite sure if you should take yours. The kids have seen the billboards along the road, the advertisements on TV, and know the characters from the toys in their last fast-food meal. They have heard other kids talking about the movie-and so, says your little one, why can’t I go see it? What do you do? What is your strategy when it comes to your children and their media consumption? As a parent (or anyone raising kids these days) you have your job cut out for you when it comes to media. The Church calls media “gifts of God,” but the messages presented by the media do not always agree with our core values of love of God and love of neighbor. You want not only to pass on to your children good values, but also the faith and morals that you believe in. Sometimes the media can help, but oftentimes it presents a challenge. How to Watch Movies with Kids offers practical tips, questions to ponder, and resources to help you build your own family strategy for dealing proactively with media influences. Sr. Hosea Rupprecht has worked in the field of media mindfulness and media literacy for many years, and in this book, she brings her expertise to you-so that you can make your own decisions and strategies for media use to fit the needs of your family. Features & Benefits: Includes an informative resource list Features a section of family activities to be used in conjunction with the book Includes discussion questions that can be used as is or adapted for every family

Meaning at the Movies

Meaning at the Movies

$16.99

This illuminating book helps Christians think biblically and critically about the art and culture of film, moving beyond simple moral judgments to an understanding of deeper worldviews and philosophical meaning. Hollywood produces, packages, and sells hundreds of movies every year. Many of these movies propagate a distorted sense of morality and ethics. Under the surface of immoral behavior and unlawfulness, however, there can be deeper problems in Hollywood's messages. What are these stories telling the viewer about life, relationships, and God? What worldviews and ideas do they espouse? If Christians are to tread carefully at the theater complex, they need resources to help them. This book is just such a resource. By exploring the relationship between Christianity and art, the theology of biblical discernment, and a brief history of filmmaking, as well as through analysis of popular films, Meaning at the Movies equips readers for careful discernment in the cinema. The book does not simply list criteria for judging film art; instead it encourages Christians to develop biblical and critical discernment in regard to not only film, but all aspects of culture.

David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson are two of America’s preeminent film scholars. You would be hard pressed to find a serious student of the cinema who hasn’t spent at least a few hours huddled with their seminal introduction to the field— Film Art , now in its ninth edition—or a cable television junkie unaware that the Independent Film Channel sagely christened them the “Critics of the Naughts.” Since launching their blog Observations on Film Art in 2006, the two have added web virtuosos to their growing list of accolades, pitching unconventional long-form pieces engaged with film artistry that have helped to redefine cinematic storytelling for a new age and audience. Minding Movies presents a selection from over three hundred essays on genre movies, art films, animation, and the business of Hollywood that have graced Bordwell and Thompson’s blog. Informal pieces, conversational in tone but grounded in three decades of authoritative research, the essays gathered here range from in-depth analyses of individual films such as Slumdog Millionaire and Inglourious Basterds to adjustments of Hollywood media claims and forays into cinematic humor. For Bordwell and Thompson, the most fruitful place to begin is how movies are made, how they work, and how they work on us. Written for film lovers, these essays—on topics ranging from Borat to blockbusters and back again—will delight current fans and gain new enthusiasts. Serious but not solemn, vibrantly informative without condescension, and above all illuminating reading, Minding Movies offers ideas sure to set film lovers thinking—and keep them returning to the silver screen.

Lush, heartfelt, and elegant, At the Movies finds smooth jazz saxophonist Dave Koz celebrating his favorite movie themes. Featured here are such classic movie melodies as “Over the Rainbow,” “The Shadow of Your Smile,” and “The Pink Panther” as well as more contemporary songs like “A Whole New World” and the main theme from Schindler’s List. Showcased beautifully throughout At the Movies is Koz’s deftly melodic and supple saxophone sound, which truly evinces his obvious love of film and film music. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s often backed by a full orchestra and big band here, adding to the widescreen, cinematic sound he’s going for. Also engaging are Koz’s guest artist choices, including trumpeter Chris Botti, vocalists Johnny Mathis, Barry Manilow, Donna Summer, and others. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi Performers: Ingrid Bergman – Spoken Word; Bill Meredith – Horn (English); Birch Johnson – Trombone (Tenor); Diane Lesser – Horn (English), Oboe; Joe Passaro – Tympani [Timpani]; Larry Farrell – Trombone (Tenor); Marc Goldberg – Bassoon; Ron Jannelli – Bassoon; Adrian Benjamin – Viola;

Colma-Musical

Ever been to Colma? It’s that little town right next to San Francisco. No? Well, its claim to fame is that the dead outnumber the living 1500 to 1 (cause of its cemeteries, don’t get any crazy ideas). But it’s really just like any other sleepy town that rests in the shadow of a huge progressive city – New York’s got New Jersey, Philly’s got Cherry Hill, San Francisco’s got Colma, the list goes on and on. And in these towns, there are kids, and one day, these kids must grow up – or at least start to.Best pals Rodel, Billy, and Maribel live in Colma and they love it! (not really). After graduating from high school the trio finds themselves in a state of limbo; fresh out of high school, they are just beginning to explore a new unstructured world. Like most kids, they are on the brink of self-discovery, but aren’t in much of a rush. What is the rush, anyway? They are having too much fun doing nothing or crashing college parties. But when newfound revelations and romances challenge their relationships with one another and their parents, the trio must assess what to hold onto, and how to best follow their dreams.Oh, there’s one more thing – they sing. Colma: The Musical boasts 13 musical numbers featuring all original music by H.P. Mendoza and is Richard Wong’s feature directorial debut. It has been awarded the Special Jury Prize at the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival, Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival and San Diego Asian Film Festival. It was honored with nominations for the Gotham Award ( Best Film Not in a Theater Near You ) and the Independent Spirit Award ( Someone to Watch Award ).

Hollywood Sleuths #1-Kennel Murder Case/Nancy Drew Repo

Hollywood Sleuths #1-Kennel Murder Case/Nancy Drew Repo

$9.95

Studio contract director Michael Curtiz took home a single Oscar (for Casablanca) during his long career, but his list of credits simply cannot be equaled. He gave us Yankee Doodle Dandy, The Sea Hawk and White Christmas, to name just a few. His The Kennel Murder Case (1933) stands as one of the best mystery pictures of the Thirties, as Philo Vance solves a murder during a snooty Long Island dog show. Curtiz really keeps things moving with plenty of stylish touches along the way (thanks in part to cinematographer William Rees). Of course, having William Powell (as Vance), Mary Astor and Eugene Pallette in the cast doesn t hurt. Warner Brothers made four films from Carolyn Keene s Nancy Drew books, all starring Bonita Granville, and directed by William Clemens. Nancy Drew, Reporter (1939) may be the best. Though made for kids, these films provided real thrills, held up to adult scrutiny and, most important, were never condescending to their audience, which is why they hold up so well today.

Chicago weatherman David Spritz (Nicolas Cage) is living the life most of us dream of: he’s a celebrity, makes a six-figure salary working two hours a day, and is on the short list for the meteorologist job on a national morning show. But his professional successes are overshadowed by his personal failures. He’s divorced from his wife, his kids are slipping away from him and even his Pulitzer Prize-winning father (Michael Caine) won’t take him seriously.

Webster, the Scaredy Spider

Webster, the Scaredy Spider

$5.1

Max Lucado’s Hermie and Friends is proud to introduce the third movie in this series… Webster, the Scaredy Spider! Did someone say SPIDER?! AGGHH! (Well — Hermie is proud to introduce him. Everyone else just runs in fear.) With little regard to the Garden Treaty of ‘85, Webster wanders into the garden to face his long list of fears: leaving home, other insects, talking in front of others, meeting new people, big lizards, water, heights, flying through the air, dark places . . . (You get the point.) Little does he know that he is a big, hairy source of fear for all of the other insects in the garden. But with guidance from God (after, of course, getting up the courage to talk to Him), Webster finds a way to face his fears, and in turn, the other insects learn to face Webster. Kids of all ages will appreciate this light-hearted reminder that God is always beside them.
